weekends

This is what my kitchen table looks like this morning.  The sun is barely out and I woke up early because I was just too darn excited to sleep!  I wanted to continue cutting into my stash for a January project.  I'm taking a small break to make some French press coffee and I'll probably eat a cookie with it (yea)!

(Jeff and I)

Yesterday we took the kids downtown to The Wax Museum and for ice cream.  The museum was c.r.e.e.p.y. but I was impressed with how many historical figures my children could name - they were most excited about 'seeing' Albert Einstein and Jack Sparrow (not that he is a historical figure)!

I hope your weekend is as relaxing and sweet as mine!  What are you working on today?

farmer's market

 The one thing I just had to do on our weekend trip was meet up with all the cousins and go to the local farmer's market.  The vendors were kind enough to let me snap some pictures of their wares.  I actually purchased some of those blackberries and some natural laundry detergent.  My cousin bought potatoes & dill which combined to make the best potato salad I've ever had!

Here are some other 'treasures' that my mom made for our Sunday birthday brunch~

Simply lovely!

Memorial Day memories

Yesterday was our first canoe trip of the year!  Mr. Rodgers, HG and I floated the Caddo river.  Mr. Rodgers took an unintentional swim within the first 3 minutes of our trip.  I laughed and laughed - it must be hard to push off and jump in all at once!  We never tipped which was a relief to me.  We saw a couple of guys accidentally sink their canoe and it did not look fun.

For lunch we ate turkey sandwiches, apples, pineapple, potato chips and homemade brownies on the river bank.  We swam and tried to catch tadpoles while we were resting.  Plus, no one got sunburned - yea!

We live in a national park with so many outdoor activities.  We are just starting to try to take advantage of some of them.  Yesterday on the drive home I felt like I had literally soaked nature into my skin.  The water, sun and air were circulating throughout my body and it felt simply wonderful.

Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend!

summer lap quilt :: basting

The quilt sandwich has been hand basted using fuchsia thread and a curved needle.  I've never used a curved needle and I'm sure that there may have been a 'right way' to hold the darn thing.  Two hands worked better than one.  The basting is finished and I'm excited to start quilting.  I've decided to hand quilt using a beautiful light celery-mustard green...I don't know the right color name!

I'm going to work on it this afternoon while watching the French film Delicatessen.   Later I'm making brownies for our canoeing trip we are taking tomorrow.  Jeff and I are taking HG while the girls play at Gramps & Mamsies.  I'm feeling excited to spend the day with my two boys!  Alone time with mom and dad will be good for HG - he's the middle child so he doesn't get the attention he always deserves.

wee art gallery

The children put together an art gallery for Mr. Rodgers and I over the weekend.  With each hour that passed it would grow & grow with more delightful animal drawings.  It was so cute.  They led us in and we had to 'keep our eyes closed' until we were seated.  Then each child took a turn telling us about their pieces.  I love that they worked so hard at their art and worked together to tape it all up and then took turns sharing our attention.  I wish things were calm like that around here more often.

I will note that I've done some major cleaning and re-organizing around here this weekend.  When the house is tidy and clean so are our attitudes.  That should be reason enough for me to keep up with housework more than I do.  I believe that the state of ones home is a direct reflection of the state of ones internal feelings.  Sure, there is the occasional exception, but for the most part I find this to be true.  Hope you had a pleasent weekend!  I will announce the winner of the giveaway in just a bit - it's not too late to leave a comment (see last post)~
