ribbons and ruffles bloomers

I totally wish I had a photograph of B standing up in these but as it is, I don't. My camera is literally duct taped together these days...I'm hard on the technology and a crazy 3 1/2 yr old who now actually poses instead of just being her sweet self makes photoshoot time hectic. Anyway...aren't these adorable? They are really more of a pantaloon then bloomer but whatever. I used 1/2 yard of my beloved Heather Ross fabric. Her designs compliment clothing so well, don't you think?
I meshed this Simplicty pattern + this free Colette pattern to create my bloomers. I took some pictures of the process which I'll post under projects soon. Basically I used the Simplicity pattern for the shorts (I left out the 'fly') and then used the technique in the Colette pattern to run the ribbon through the legs. Wouldn't you know that after making the buttonholes and seaming the legs all up I realized that the pattern called for 2 buttonholes on each leg. Never fear...the 1 did just fine and I didn't do the pleat in the front either. Just scrunched with a ribbon. Oh, and the 18 step (I'm exaggerating) waist band turned into a simple[ fold once and run 1 piece of elastic through and your done] waist.
These would be adorable paired with some thick leggings and a sweater...preppy even...I'll have to photograph that outfit if it actually happens! Happy sewing~
